What’s Stitching at the Fall Retreat
The Fall Retreat is just a few weeks away. It is so exciting to see the canvases that each of the ladies
attending have chosen . Then, kitting the designs with just the right threads and embellishments adds to the excitment. Looking at the threads on the materials list and wondering what stitch or technique will be used in each area makes one dizzy with anticipation!
I thought you would enjoy seeing some of the canvases . Such a great mix!
The Fall Retreat is Sept 19/20/21 and you are all invited to stop by for a visit and peak
at our stitching! Meet talented Texas teacher Patricia Sone and sign up for her next class at Quail Run.
Fun fact for Friday
Here is a fun fact about today, August 28.
United Parcel Service
“In 1907 there was a great need in America for private messenger and delivery services. To help meet this need, an enterprising 19-year-old, James E. (“Jim”) Casey, borrowed $100 from a friend and established the American Messenger Company in Seattle, Washington on August 28. According to accounts given by Jim there were quite a few messenger services already in the Seattle area, some of which he had worked for in the past.
They made most deliveries on foot and used bicycles for longer trips. Only a few automobiles were in existence at that time and department stores of the day still used horses and wagons for merchandise delivery. It would be six years before the United States Parcel Post system would be established.
Jim and his partner, Claude Ryan ran the service from a humble office located under the sidewalk. Jim’s brother George and a handful of other teenagers were the company’s messengers. The company did well despite stiff competition, largely because of Jim Casey´s strict policies of customer courtesy, reliability, round-the-clock service, and low rates. These principles, which guide UPS even today, are summarized by Jim´s slogan: best service and lowest rates.”

How do you stitch so quickly?
TIPS FOR STITCHING “FASTER”
A frequent question I get asked is “How do you stitch so quickly?”
Here are some tips –
1.Be organized
Take the time to organize you threads (I use little plastic bags on a ring) in alphabetical order or numerical order. This will save you time so you can stitch more rather than spending time looking for a thread.
2.Use good tools
The right size needle, laying tool/trolley needle , stretcher bars if you prefer and a good scissor(my favorite are the cotton candy scissors) will make stitching easy and comfortable. I keep my tools in a small metal magnetic dish so they are right there when I want to stitch.
3.Create a stitching area
A comfortable chair, good lighting and magnification if needed are a must. Keep your project along with all your threads and tools in your “nest”, so you can sit and stitch without wasting time looking for them.
4.List pad
I keep a paper pad handy to keep a list of threads/embellishments when I am running low which I add to the notepad on my phone. Then, you can purchase these items on your next visit to your LNS and complete your project.
5.Books
Keep your favorite stitch reference books in your stitching area to refer to as needed.
Happy Stitching.

Summer Stitching
How is your summer stitching coming along?I am busy working on several pieces for the shop but am making time to complete my challenge canvas. Here is the progress so far.
The little pony is completed . Working on the background in a variety of darning patterns next.Still a good portion to complete but pleased so far. I stitch for 30 minutes on this piece every morning..Thinking of ideas for the brown paper packages as I stitch. As you do , I have changed threads and stitches when it did not look as I wanted. I am really enjoying stitching this piece.
Hope your summer stitching is going well!
