When I was growing up, Remembrance Day ( Nov 11) as it was called then, was a major event. Schools were closed and our families went to the War Memorial for the service in honor of fallen soldiers and those serving to keep us all free and safe. Several wreaths were presented during the service.
So today, I share with you the wonderful wreath created by the Royal School of Needlework.
Here are the comments from the RSN.
“Today we remember those who died or suffered in service during wartime and commemorate their sacrifice to the nation.
RSN Degree students will lay the Remembrance Poppy Wreath in a memorial service at Hampton Court Palace. Each year, students add their own hand-stitched poppies to the wreath, making a thoughtful and lasting tribute to the heroes of war.
Lest we forget. “
Here is a closeup of some of the individual poppies that were created for this wreath.
This poem , perhaps familiar to many of you, was one we all memorized.
