It’s all about the Finishing!

When it come to pillow designs , there are so many choices . Some prefer boxed to a knife-edged finish . Fabric choice is another issue-Ultrasuede, velvet, cotton or something else ?  As with the other finishing we do, design of the pillow and fabric/cording choices take time . A fabric frame in a complimentary fabric can add so much to the final result. Sometimes the right materials have to be ordered to get the best result for you but worth the wait. Here are just a few of the pillows finished lately for our customers.

This customer asked for a fun fringe or pompoms

Here is a closeup of the pompom trim that worked so well .
The fabric frame with the additional rick rac
complete the finishing .  Beautifully stitched , the finishing complements the design.

This Floral canvas was lovingly stitched for a wonderful mother in law. The green fabric frame and blue cordings were perfect. She was thrilled with this gift and has called her family three times to thank them for
this wonderful gift. Who won’t want this displayed on a chair or sofa in their house!

We made a box pillow with coordinating trims to complete this terrific counted Bargello design .
It is quite large 22×22″  and is down filled

Here is a closeup of the  corded trim and the fabric frame with twisted cord accent.

A wonderful baby gift , this fun monkey is  bright and colorful. The knife edge was finished with a red trim and the green frame with this same red trim sets off the monkey.  Just another example of different trims and finishing.

Here is one of my favorite pillows. The customer asked that we finish it for a beach home.
We found the perfect fabric and added the ruffe. We cut the fabric so the flower on the back mirrored the image on the front. She loved the finishing and may keep it for herself as it turned out so well!

Last but not least this contemporary canvas was finished using a small  flange with pleated corners in the perfect color of green. This flange is labor intensive but gives a unique finish.

So next time you want to have a pillow finished, let us make some suggestions.
We enjoy complimenting your stitching with just the right design, fabric and trims.

In Remembrance Nov 11

When I was growing up, Remembrance Day ( Nov 11) as it was called then, was a major event. Schools were closed and our families went to the War Memorial for the service in honor of fallen soldiers and those serving to keep us all free and safe. Several wreaths were presented during the service.

So today, I share with you the wonderful wreath created by the Royal School of Needlework.

Here are the comments from the RSN.

“Today we remember those who died or suffered in service during wartime and commemorate their sacrifice to the nation.

RSN Degree students will lay the Remembrance Poppy Wreath in a memorial service at Hampton Court Palace. Each year, students add their own hand-stitched poppies to the wreath, making a thoughtful and lasting tribute to the heroes of war.

Lest we forget. “

Here is a closeup of some of the individual poppies that were created for this wreath.

This poem , perhaps familiar to many of you, was one we all memorized.

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
        In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
        In Flanders fields.

We take Your FINISHING seriously!

Finishing is so important so we take  this very seriously at Quail Run Needlework.  Each ornament is reviewed carefully , then ample time is spent selecting just the right fabrics and embellishments. If we don’t have just the right materials, that means a shopping trip to our local fabric/hobby shops for just the right materials. We like to add just the right little touch to your stitched piece. We are careful to review all your special requests and fit them into the finished designs. Here are some great examples .

This lovely cabin ornament needed just the right colors and embellishment. The blue denim bow and little carved owl along with the twisted trim were just the right additions to the great stitching.

This customer prefers a ring instead of a twisted loop or hook . The little little paw print charm was added as that final special touch. She loves her Scotties!

Plaid is a must for this customer so we always  incorporate this into her finishing . Here we used a plaid bow that works great .

We are often asked to add embroidery on the back – a date, name or intials. We have a deluxe
Viking Husqvarna embroidery machine in our workroom  to accomodate all these special embroidery requests.

Making sure the fabric compliments the design is so important. Here we used a pattern similar to the scattered sequins on the front and placed a bright red star at an angle for that added little touch .
We want the ornaments to look as good from the back as the front.

Easel back stand ups are a popular request. We have several ways of doing these , depending on the size of the  design.  These are great as they fold flat for easy storage once the holiday season is over.

Each holiday season, I stitch one large piece to add to my store’s models. This wreath was this season’s project. It is proudly displayed above our class display table.  You must come see if for yourself!

We know how hard you work on  your canvases and the costs involved in each project.
Finishing can enhance a stitched canvas but can also ruin the look.
We want to make sure our finishing is just right for you!
The next blog will highlight our pillow finishing so watch for this .
